Guiding your thoughts towards manifestation

Always know that wherever you are is perfect. You don’t have to feel that you need to be some place better in order to get to where you want to be. You are in the perfect position to get there from here. Nothing in your environment has to change in order for you to begin deliberately connecting to the stream of wellbeing. You could be facing bankruptcy, you could be in the middle of a divorce, or you could be in jail. But you are still in the perfect place to begin, and it does not require a great deal of time.
It only requires a simple understanding of universal laws, and a determination to move toward a state of allowing. When you drive your car from one place to another, you have an awareness of your starting place as well as an awareness of where you are going. You accept that in time you will arrive at your destination. You may feel anxious to get there and maybe even tired of the journey, but you do not get discouraged to the point that you turn around and go back, or drive back and forth until you quit driving.
If you don’t control your thoughts, you don’t control your wants and needs.  Don’t control your wants and needs and you don’t control your actions.

Health benefits of Turmeric

In our food and wellness today, we want to talk about a root, known as TURMERIC.
There has been so many write-ups, discussions and teachings about this wonder root especially in recent times. Little wonder you find it almost everywhere these days.

What is Turmeric?
Scientifically called Curcuma longa (which is the name of the plant the herb comes from), it grows in India and several other Southeast Asian countries. It is in the family of ginger. The dried root of the Curcuma longa plant is ground to make the turmeric powder, which is a very tasty and healthy spice used for cooking. This powder is a major ingredient in curry powder, which explains the yellow colour.

It is also called haldi in Hindi (pasupu in Telugu, manjal in Tamil and Malayalam, and arisina in Kannada). Turmeric is one of the most studied herbs in science. The powder is used as a colouring agent in South Asian cuisines because of the yellow colour.
The compounds in turmeric, called curcuminoids (curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, and bisdemethoxycurcumin), have several advantages for human health. It also contains proteins, resins and sugars.

The herb has so many benefits, too numerous to mention but we would talk about some of the benefits of turmeric, which include:

1. Anti-Inflammatory
Curcumin, which is a potent compound in turmeric is known to reduce inflammatory, and aids in arthritis treatment.  Turmeric also helps to treat gastrointestinal issues linked to irritable bowel syndrome, which is caused by inflammation. Turmeric is safe and natural, unlike the processed anti-inflammatory drugs which may affect the kidney and the liver.

2. Prevents cancer
Curcumin is known to suppress the initiation, progression, and metastasis of numerous kinds of tumors, protects against cancer and kills cancer cells.
More interesting is the fact that curcumin also activates certain proteins in the body that suppresses tumors. It can even differentiate a healthy gene from a sick gene, and surprisingly alters the expression of the sick gene. This simply means that curcumin can change DNA, alter the course of genes, and totally turns around the health of cells.

3. Prevents Diabetes
It was found to lower the glucose level in the blood, thus prevents diabetes. Curcumin in turmeric can also aid in the treatment of liver disorders associated with diabetes.

4. Prevents heart disease and promotes brain health
Research has shown that turmeric was used for treating chest pain in ancient Indian and Chinese medicine. In other cases of obesity, it was discovered that the herb reduced cholesterol concentrations – and more importantly, increased the levels of good cholesterol.
Similarly, Curcumin in turmeric also boosts the regeneration of brain cells, given the potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

5. Has antioxidant properties
Turmeric is known to scavenge free radicals, inhibit peroxidation, and reduce iron complex – all of which are a direct result of its antioxidant properties.
It helps in weight loss and prevents obesity.

6. Prevents Aging
This wonder root contains curcuminoid pigments which turns on the genes that enhance the body’s synthesis of antioxidants. This protects the cells of the brain and skin from free radical damage, improves concentration, and even slows down the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Wow, you’d say!

7. Boosts the immune system
Due to the presence of anti-inflammatory properties, it was found that it can boost the immune system. It was also discovered that curcumin stops the recruitment of certain immune cells which, when overactive, can lead to ailments like heart disease and obesity. Study also shows that turmeric can stimulate the immune system and destroy the bacteria that cause drug-resistant tuberculosis.

8. Can work as an antiseptic
Turmeric displays excellent antibacterial properties against various types of bacteria, some of them which include E.coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella typhi – accentuating its antiseptic properties.

9. Great for the skin
The antioxidants enhance skin health, treats acne, psoriasis, prevents wrinkles, cures stretch marks and other skin conditions. It also keeps the skin free from infections.

10. Good for the hair.
It prevents hair loss, and treats dandruff.

How is this wonderful root/herb used?

  • It can be used fresh, or dry and ground: whichever way is convenient for you. Drinking this mixture in the morning can give you a healthy dose of antioxidants and take care of your overall health in the long run. You can add honey and ginger if you want.
  • You can improve the absorption of turmeric by consuming it in whole food and it can also be chewed raw.
  • Fresh turmeric root can be added to your favorite smoothie. Blend a peeled turmeric root with other fresh fruits and vegetables to make a delicious and healthy smoothie.
  • For the skin, you can mix turmeric with castor oil for a brilliant skin detox. Or even use it as an acne gel or a soothing face mask.
  • For the hair, a mixture of turmeric and olive oil can eliminate dandruff and improve scalp health. Just mix equal parts of both and leave it on your hair for 20 minutes before shampooing. Wonderful you would say! Just give it a try today. It is available in Nigerian markets and shops, and all over the world.

7 Attributes of the Truly Confident Person

A lot of people might believe they are confident, depending on how they feel on any given day. But confidence is not a fleeting thing that is here today and takes a holiday tomorrow. Confidence is all pervasive. It shows itself in every aspect of our lives: the way we view ourselves, perceive our world, approach crises, the way we treat others, our readiness to exercise compassion and forgiveness, and, most important, the way we treat ourselves.

True confidence is an incredible feeling because it has a few key attributes embedded in it, seven of them, in fact, which are the hallmarks of the truly confident person. You cannot say you are confident unless you score highly on each of those seven aspects.

1. Self Love
This is the first crucial attribute. If you have no self-love, you have no confidence because this is at the heart of confidence: self-love and self-acceptance, which then decide our self-esteem. It is not possible to be happy and confident yet dislike our bodies or ourselves. Any lack of self-love is a prelude to misery and dissatisfaction with our lot. Happiness begins from within and when we love ourselves and do not seek the approval of anyone, we are half-way to real contentment and the next key attribute, self-belief.

2. Self-Belief
With self-love comes amazing self-belief in what is truly possible. The Universe is our limit, as we become unstoppable and fearless. People who think highly of themselves do not see barriers to achievements or obstacles in their paths. Anything which blocks their journey can be removed because confident people already believe they have the tools to remove those blocks. They can cope with crises too because they believe they can. That is the main difference between a confident and a fearful person: one believes they have the power to affect their life, whereas the other person looks to others to do it for them.

3. Comfort in Themselves
Confident people are happy in their own skin. They love who they are, they do not wish to be anyone else and they seek no one's approval to be whom they wish to be. That is a sure sign of a strong sense of belonging and personal security. Even when there is a setback, they know it is only temporary and they will be back in action again because they value themselves and their talents, regardless of what other people think. They tend to do what they please without following the fashion or being lemmings. Being natural leaders, they tend to set the pace for others and to inspire them.

4. Self-Awareness
Confident people know their limitations and their potential. That is because they do not sit and dwell on their weaknesses, like people of low esteem. They identify their strengths and nurture them while acknowledging their weaknesses as important to their personality. They are fully aware that the unique beings they are is the result of BOTH their strengths and weaknesses, so they do not dwell on the negative aspects of their personality. They know what makes them happy and sad. Being leaders and optimists, they are more assured in their direction and objectives because they understand who they are and what they want, which is the first key step to boosting achievement and personal development.

5. Fearlessness
Confident people tend to be pioneers, fearless in their approach and their actions. It is not that they do not have the usual fears of survival. What they don't have is the limiting and paralyzing fears regarding simply living their life to the utmost which plague insecure and non-confident people. Those with high self-esteem are keen to get on with it so they tend to act first and be afraid later! Willing to take risks and to make sacrifices, they have very little fear in living their life to the max.

6. Experiment
Really confident people love to experiment, to try out new situations, innovate and create, They are always pushing the boundaries of their talents because of their self-belief. Unlike people of low esteem, confident ones do not care about making mistakes, because they know that's how they learn and grow. They are not worried about being wrong, but at arriving at a solution or a different result, no matter how many times they have to change their approach. They recognize that mistakes are part and parcel of success on their personal journey. Failure is not in their vocabulary and so they will achieve their desires no matter how long it takes, because they have the tenacity, self-belief and determination to keep trying even when many others have given up.

7. Happiness
Confident people are truly happy with their life. It doesn't mean they are never sad. It means that if they are down it lasts very briefly and then they are back up again. They know they can always do something else and change the result. People of low esteem always blame themselves and reinforce that with even poorer thoughts of their abilities, so they stay in the doldrums much longer. They are not truly at peace so they take the knocks badly. Confident people know that setbacks are temporary and all they need to do is brush themselves off and start over again, while keeping their eye on their goals. Above all, being contented with themselves and their bodies, confident people tend to be truly happy, approachable, often cheerful and with a ready smile.
