Covid-19: 481 new cases recorded in Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 481 new cases of the coronavirus in Nigeria. Out of the 481 confirmed cases reported in the last 24 hours from 15 states, FCT has 96 cases, Lagos (89), Plateau (68), Ogun (49), Edo (44), Rivers (43), Oyo (25), Osun (23), Delta (15), Enugu (11), Kaduna (7), Kano (7), Bauchi (2), Bayelsa (1) and Yobe (1). Covid-19: “Wear googles if you have” – Dr. Fauci

Dr Anthony Fauci, an infectious disease expert in the US, has said that people should wear googles for complete protection from Covid-19 as the virus can enter the body through any mucosal surface – including the mouth, nose or eyes. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Coronavirus is primarily contagious through respiratory droplets expelled when people cough or sneeze, but growing evidence suggests that droplets from just regular speaking or breathing may be able to spread the disease too. Hydroxychloroquine: Facebook, Twitter and Youtube deletes Dr. Stella Immanuel’s videos

Facebook, Twitter and Youtube has deleted videos by an American-based doctor, Dr. Stella Immanuel who claimed to have successfully treated about 350 Covid-19 patients using a combination of hydroxychloroquine, zinc and Zithromax. The video was first published by Breitbart News, a right-wing medium co-founded by Steve Bannon, a former aide to American President, Donald Trump. In the video, which was shot in front of the United States Supreme Court, Dr Immanuel is seen with seven others wearing white lab coats calling themselves “America’s Frontline Doctors” and addressing the press. Out of the 648 new confirmed cases, Lagos recorded 180, Plateau-148, FCT-44, Ondo-42, Kwara-38, Rivers-32, Oyo-29, Kaduna-21, Osun-20, Edo-17, Ogun-17, Ekiti-11, Kano-9, Benue-9, Delta-9, Abia-9, Niger-7, Gombe-3, Borno-1, Bauchi-1 and Imo-1. Covid-19: Exit classes to reopen August 4th, 2020

The Federal Government has directed Secondary schools in the country to reopen as from the 4th of August, 2020 for exit classes only. Students were also given two weeks to prepare for the West African Examination Council which is due to start on August 17th. Lucy becomes Head of House, picks Prince as deputy

This evening, Big Brother organised the weekly head of house challenge for the housemates which had Lucy emerge as the new head of house for this week. When asked to choose who her assistant will be, she chose Prince. As part of the new twist this season, the Head of House and deputy will not be up for possible eviction while other housemates are up for eviction on Sunday. COVID-19: Nigeria’s cases hit 40k as 555 new cases were recorded

Nigeria has recorded 555 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, July 26. According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC, Lagos state recorded 156 new cases, Kano – 65, Ogun – 57, Plateau – 54, Oyo – 53, Benue – 43, FCT – 30, Ondo – 18 ,Kaduna – 16, Akwa Ibom – 13, Gombe – 13, Rivers – 12, Ekiti – 9, Osun – 8, Cross River – 3, Borno – 2, Edo – 2 and Bayelsa – 1 As at Sunday, July 26, Nigeria has 40,532 confirmed cases. 17,374 COVID-19 patients have been discharged so far while 858 deaths have been recorded. Akpabio reveals names of lawmakers who got NDDC contracts

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has named some federal lawmakers who allegedly got contracts from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). In a document sighted by PREMIUM TIMES, the named lawmakers include the Chairman of the Senate committee on Niger Delta, Peter Nwabaoshi, whose name was listed against 53 projects. Some of the projects mentioned include emergency repairs of Asue Street, Owa Phase 2; ldumuogbe Road via Ojemaye; Otolokpo College Road, Otolokpo; and the Police lshu Ani Ukwu Road, Issele Uku, in Delta State. Others are Senator Matthew Urhoghide who got six projects, Senator James Manager who got six contracts and a former senator, Samuel Anyanwu, who got 19 projects. The former Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on the NDDC, Nicholas Mutu, was also named by the minister as receiving 74 contracts – the highest among the listed lawmakers.
