Covid-19: Plateau state governor tests positive

Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has tested positive for coronavirus after he and his family carried out a test. Director of Press & Public Affairs to the Governor, Dr. Makut Simon Macham, in a statement on Thursday, December 17, said the test result indicated that Governor Lalong’s test returned positive while all members of his family tested negative. Consequently, the Governor who is asymptomatic has gone into isolation while his close aides are being tested. As a result, the Governor will henceforth work from home during the period of treatment. All State matters requiring the Governor’s physical presence will be handled by the Deputy Governor. Omah Lay and Tems returns home after arrest in Uganda

Two fast-rising Nigerian stars, Omah Lay and Tems who were arrested in Uganda for flouting COVID-19 guidelines have finally returned home. Their arrival was announced by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission on Thursday, December 17. According to her, the singers landed at the MMIA Lagos from Uganda via Ethiopia Airline at about 12:35 pm local time. She also thanked officials of the Nigerian mission in Uganda, Nigeria’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama and the Ugandan government for the quick resolution of the issue. “520 of us were abducted” – Rescued Kankara student

One of the rescued students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, (name not ascertained at press time), has shed light on the recent abduction in Katsina, claiming a total of 520 students were abducted by bandits in the state. According to him, the kidnappers counted them twice after they completed their operation and told them they will still go for another attack on the Girls’ Secondary School in the area. This was disclosed on Monday by Arise News correspondent who conducted series of interviews with one of the rescued students alongside some parents of others still in the hostage of the abductors. Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, suspended

Rector of the Federal Polytechnic in Ede, Osun state John Adekolawole, been suspended by the institution’s academic board for “sleeping at work.” Picture of a king size bed found in his office Adekunle Masopa, chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) in the institution, said the board based its decision on 21 grounds. Masopa, speaking after an emergency congress of the union, said a position paper was submitted to the union by the board after its meeting.
