Coronavirus: Lagos Health Ministry confirms four new cases

The Lagos State Ministry of Health has confirmed four new cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

This is coming after the ministry confirmed five cases at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.

They explained that out of the five cases, three arrived from the US while two came from the UK.

He said, “We are still collating information on the travelers; two out of the three from the US are Nigerians, a mother and a 6-week old baby which makes it the youngest COVID-19 patient we have.”

“The third is an American national, who crossed the land border to become the first COVID-19 case not arriving by air. The two cases from the UK are Nigerians.”

This brings the total number of coronavirus cases in Nigeria to 12, although one of the victims has fully recovered.

The Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, addressed journalists on the new cases on Thursday (Today) at the State Secretariat.

He said 19 tests were performed on suspected cases and contacts of the five cases announced on Wednesday, out of which four turned positive.

The first positive test is that of a Nigerian female who returned from France via a Turkish airline (TK 1830) on March 14 while another confirmed case that tested positive is a Nigerian male in his 50s who had never travelled anywhere.

The Commissioner added that the third case is a Nigerian male who arrived Nigeria on March 13, from Frankfurt, Germany on Luftansa flight LH 568.
