COVID-19: Nigeria records 248 new cases and 17 deaths

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported that 248 new cases of Coronavirus has been confirmed in different states in the country.

The cases were broken down according to states and the FCT as follows; 81-Lagos – 81, Jigawa – 35, Borno – 26, Kano – 26, Bauchi – 20, FCT – 13, Edo – 12, Sokoto – 10, Zamfara – 7, Kwara – 4, Kebbi – 4, Gombe – 2, Taraba – 2, Ogun – 2, Ekiti – 2, Osun – 1, Bayelsa – 1.

17 deaths were also recorded on Sunday, May 10.

The NCDC also rectified an error it made in its announcement on Saturday May 9. According to the health agency, FCT recorded 13 discharged cases and 2 deaths on May 9, 2020 and not 32 discharge cases as earlier announced.

As at Sunday May 10, Nigeria has a total of 4399 cases of Coronavirus. 778 patients have been discharged and 143 deaths have been recorded.

Saudi Arabia bans underage marriages

The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Justice has set 18 years as minimum age for marriage and banned the marriage of persons under 18 years. The Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, Sheikh Walid Al-Samaani, issued the new directive through a circular sent to all the courts in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Child marriages are commonplace in Saudi Arabia with one in seven girls marrying before the age of 18. According to the Justice Ministry ruling, any teenager below the age of 18 will from now on be referred to specialized courts that will assess whether they can get married or not.
