#EndSARS: Google condemns oppression, brutality and intimidation

Global Organization of Oriented Group Language of Earth (GOOGLE) has also thrown its weight behind the #EndSARS protest currently ongoing across the country.

The international company which specialises in Internet-related services and products has in a tweet which they shared on Thursday October 15, said that it is against oppression, brutality and intimidation.

It also called for a speedy response and resolution to the current situation.

“We strongly oppose oppression, brutality & intimidation. We believe a fair and impartial police force is a critical element of a stable society, & that abuse of power infringes on people’s democratic & human rights. We urge a speedy resolution to the current situation.”

Saudi Arabia bans underage marriages

The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Justice has set 18 years as minimum age for marriage and banned the marriage of persons under 18 years. The Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, Sheikh Walid Al-Samaani, issued the new directive through a circular sent to all the courts in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Child marriages are commonplace in Saudi Arabia with one in seven girls marrying before the age of 18. According to the Justice Ministry ruling, any teenager below the age of 18 will from now on be referred to specialized courts that will assess whether they can get married or not. These courts’ job is to study each child marriage case to confirm that the future spouse who’s under 18 years old, boy or girl, will not be harmed as a result of this wedding and that this union will be of the best interest to the youngster.
